Kathy King-Dickman

Kathy King-Dickman is a retired Colorado teacher with 32 years of classroom experience in kindergarten through eighth grade. She is a Professional Learning Lead Consultant for Center for the Collaborative Classroom.

She is also an instructor for Western State Colorado University’s Summer Teacher Institute and teaches five courses she has designed for Adams State University’s Extended Studies Program both on-site and through Distance Learning to teachers all over the country. Her courses focus on literacy and engagement topics.

Kathy has published articles on literacy and writes regularly for the Collaborative Classroom blog about student engagement, writing instruction, and other literacy topics.

One question has driven her research from a bush village in Alaska to small communities of Mexican immigrants in Colorado: Why do some children come to this task we call literacy so easily, while others struggle to obtain the most basic of skills?
